The barrier is your skin's first line of defense
Think of the skin barrier as a brick wall. Skin cells are the bricks. Ceramides, lipids, and proteins are the mortar. When the mortar breaks down, the wall gets gaps. Water escapes. Irritants enter. The result is dryness, sensitivity, and reactivity.

Your skin is losing water faster than it should
Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is the invisible evaporation of moisture through the skin. A compromised barrier dramatically increases TEWL, leaving skin tight, dull, and prone to flaking even if you drink plenty of water.
